The election campaign is into the home stretch, and we have a big weekend ahead of us. I want to share three deadlines and activities with you.
First, and most important: This Monday is the deadline to register to vote in November’s election here in Virginia. I know that you all are engaged citizens and voters, but this deadline offers one last chance to double check that you are registered at your current address if you recently moved, and that any friends or family who’ve moved, or new 18-year olds you know, are registered.
It is possible to register to vote / update your registration online by going to http://elections.virginia.gov/registration/index.html. People can also register in person at our County Registrar’s office, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, 3rd floor.
Second: Arlington now has in-person absentee voting on Saturdays at three different locations throughout the County. We expect very long lines at the polls on November 8th because of the magnitude of this election, so you may want to vote in-person absentee to beat the lines. Anyone who expects to be outside Arlington at any point on Election Day, expects to work (including commute) for more than 11 hours on Election Day, or meets any of a long list of reasons can vote absentee.
There are three sites to vote this Saturday and every Saturday until Election Day: Court House Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard in Central Arlington, Madison Community Center, 3829 N Stafford Street in North Arlington, and Walter Reed Community Center, 2909 16th Street S in South Arlington. Voting is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays. You can also vote 8:00 am – 5:00 pm during the week at the Court House Plaza location (weekday voting at the other sites and expanded hours will begin on October 24th).
Finally, and for a little fun: Our entire Arlington Democratic Joint Campaign ticket will be celebrating at our Golden Gala, this Saturday at 7:00 pm. Along with many good friends, we are excited to welcome Amanda Renteria, National Political Director of the Hillary for America campaign as our guest speaker for the evening.
Tickets for those who have not already purchased a Joint Campaign Gold Card are $175 for the VIP cocktail reception or $125 for just the gala (discounts for Young Democrats and ACDC Roosevelt Society members). Tickets must be purchased online in advance, and will not be available at the door. My good friend, Sally Cooper, is a co-host of this event; I expect it to be a great evening and I hope to see you there.
