Dear Friends,
I will be sending you my monthly Board report in a few days, but wanted to let you know now that I strongly support Tenley Petersen to take my seat on the County Board next January. Tenley is head and shoulders above the other candidates. I will feel very good about my decision to step down if she replaces me.
I am joining my former County Board colleagues Christian Dorsey, Katie Cristol, and Jay Fisette as well as many Arlingtonians who have been involved in our commissions and civic life for many years in this endorsement.
I’ve gotten to know Tenley over many years, and if elected, she will serve Arlington well. I first worked with her as a member and then as Chair of the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission and now as Vice Chair of the Planning Commission. Her knowledge of the County is deep and that includes knowledge of our school system. Last year, she began working as a substitute teacher when our schools didn’t have enough substitute teachers. Her depth of experience and knowledge of the County is rare in a candidate for County Board.
As a communications professional, Tenley brings exactly the skills needed in these complicated times.
What sets Tenley apart, however, is not just her experience and skills—it’s her common sense approach to governance. In an era where political discourse is often dominated by ideologues and single-issue candidates, I believe Tenley’s character and collaborative style are exactly what Arlington needs. She is more than ready to effectively serve Arlington on day one, and that is important in these nationally turbulent times.
I urge you to join me in supporting Tenley’s campaign by making a donation, talking to your friends about her, and casting your vote for her in the primary on June 18. (Early voting starts May 3.) For donations and more information, her website is: https://www.tenleypeterson.com/
Happy Passover to all who celebrate.
With gratitude for your support over almost three decades,
Libby Garvey
