Dear Friends:
It’s been a difficult week for Arlington and the nation with cruelty and chaos inflicted on our public servants and most vulnerable. On top of that, our hearts go out to those affected by the tragic plane crash near National Airport.
I’ve been heartened this week by the responses I’ve seen from those determined to support good government, to help the most vulnerable, and to comfort those grieving. Every day we see the best and the worst of human behavior. Let’s focus on the best and how to counteract the worst.
I’m sure a number of my readers are Federal workers and I share with you particularly this Washington Post column “Federal workers should tell Trump ‘no deal’ on resignation offer” by Michelle Singletary on why you should not take the buyout offer. Basically, don’t trust it.
I also share a relatively short podcast by Ezra Klein: “Don’t Believe Him.”
Ezra reminds us to keep perspective and step back to see what really is going on: a weak President using bluster and fear to make us believe he is strong and can actually do things. He can tear things apart. He can’t really govern.
I hope my readers like my new approach with this newsletter and website. Please encourage others to subscribe if you do. And whether you like the new approach or not, I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
Best,
Libby
If you’d like to make a difference on the local level, I’d like to share a link to Volunteer Arlington which keeps a list of nonprofit organizations that help our community. You may want to volunteer or donate to any of them. Another worthy group you may want help is the Arlington Community Foundation that supports the work of non-profits.
