Dear Friends:
Trump/Musk continue the wanton destruction of our economy, government and security. I’ve stopped trying to find any meaning behind what they do other than achieving the destruction of our nation to serve the interests of Vladimir Putin and line the pockets of Trump and billionaires.
As we go into the weekend and a likely government shutdown, it is crucial that people turn out to make clear we will not stand for the destruction of our nation. I encourage you to call your Senators and Congress members to vote NO on the Federal “defunding budget.” Also, it is critical the region stays together. DC is at the heart of our region and needs to stay healthy. I welcome readers to pass this message from Brianne Nadeau on to our national representatives to say YES to their budget.
Spring weather is coming making demonstrating even easier to do. No one can do everything, but there is a lot to choose from this weekend. Pick what works for you.
Hyper-local is a small demonstration I developed for the weekday rush-hour from 4:30-6:30 pm. We fly our American flag upside down (the international sign of distress), along with flags for Ukraine, every weekday afternoon on the I-395 overpass (S. Abingdon Street bridge) through Fairlington. It’s only been 3 days, but the honks and waves of support have increased exponentially each day. There are a few boos and such from MAGA supporters, but those are few and far between. Come any time that works for you.
There is apparently also a regular demonstration at the Tesla showroom at 2710 South Glebe Road, but I do not have details and welcome any information my readers might have.
Several national events are happening downtown this weekend:
March 14: Veterans March on Washington in support of the 14th Amendment.
March 14, 15 & 16: Descend on DC for the Veterans March and 2 other events.
Looking ahead, there will be a Nationwide Day of Action on April 5: 435 Congressional Offices, 435 Demonstrations.
Note that a local event is being organized for April 5 in the Columbia Pike area here in Arlington to show support for our immigrant community. I’ll post more information as soon as the details are worked out.
I hope this is helpful and welcome information about events you know of. Pictures of events you attend are also welcome!
Best,
Libby
