Welcome

I’ve worked on Capitol Hill, in leadership with local school PTAs, on the Arlington County School Board for 15 years and the Arlington County Board for 8. I’ve been a wife, mother, now widow and grandmother. I’ve raised two unique daughters and am blessed with 5 singular grandchildren. I’m a cancer survivor; know the challenges of aging parents and am aging myself. Some members of my family are immigrants. Some are active in the LGBTQ community. Music feeds my soul. Cycling has strengthened my body. My Quaker faith helps keep me centered. I’ve “walked a mile” in a lot of different shoes which has made me a more understanding person and a better public servant.

As a member of the Arlington County Board and its Chair in 2020 (our 100th year with the name Arlington County), I am committed to equity, innovation and resilience. A focus on these three concepts will help us find the solutions we need for Arlington to thrive another 100 years. First, Equity: we must commit to an Arlington where progress benefits everyone, not just some. That especially includes our older residents, the people who built the Arlington we have today. Second, Innovation: we need to double down on innovative thinking. We can’t always keep using the same solutions. Third, Resilience: the solutions we find must not only be equitable, but they need to last over time.
