Dear Friends,
Many of you have likely seen this press release, but in case you have not I want to call your attention to it for two reasons:
First, the very good news is that we have completed first vaccinations of most of those 75 and older in Arlington and are now beginning to vaccinate those 65 and older. While I’ve not yet gotten my notice, several people I know in the 65+ category have been
invited to sign up for their vaccination. The invitations are going out in roughly the order in which they were received. You can read about it in the press release.
Second, the possibly good news is that the State of Virginia is taking over the pre-registration systems for vaccinations. Our County site closed down Friday afternoon. The Virginia site for pre-registration is planned to open next Tuesday, the 16th. That is described in the press release as well.
My one caution as we think about this is that the new system is statewide and …. new. In my experience, roll-outs of large electronic systems like this that connect with the public and are new, often have issues at least in the beginning. I hope any issues that Virginia experiences with this new system are small and easily handled, but I’m braced for difficulties that we on the local level will have to address.
I hope this information is helpful and wish everyone a good President’s Day weekend.
As always, stay well!
Libby
