"Libby Garvey is a creative, even-handed and productive County Board Chair. While we don’t agree on everything, she continues to be my ally on key priorities like championing open, accessible and transparent County government, adequate schools funding, robust transit solutions on the Pike and elsewhere, and streamlining our business processes. As Libby says, 'I put the good of the community before the good of the party.' That’s the way it should be in County government. Regardless of party, I agree." -- John Vihstadt Arlington County Board Member, 2014 - … [Read more...]
Why I Support Libby: Dave Leichtman
"Libby is a Democrat. Let’s go ahead and get that out of the way to start. Heck, Libby is the one who first recruited me to get involved with Arlington Dems, as she has with countless Young Dems. One need only spend an hour with her to realize that she’s clearly a hippy, pacifist, bike-riding, choir-singing Liberal. Yet there are some who think that a single transgression against the Party negates a lifetime of commitment to ideals. That’s utter nonsense, and it should be vigorously refuted. “As a State Party official, I work hard to elect Democrats, and I dutifully support our nominees. … [Read more...]
Why I Support Libby: Dan Dixon
"Libby brings a unique combination of skills to Arlington. Her creative energy reminds me of a Millennial, yet her enormous breadth of local knowledge suggests someone who's been around forever. She's an open-minded problem solver and consensus builder. She always seems to understand constituent concerns but isn't afraid to take hard positions on complex issues. I particularly value her expertise on school issues, given her years of service on the School Board, and we especially need her advocating for schools on the County Board." -- Dan Dixon Lyon Village Resident Former Chair of the … [Read more...]
May County Board Meeting: Stratford School Driveway, Blue Ribbon Panel, CIP, And More
We completed our regular May County Board meetings on Tuesday. There was a lot to cover, and here are some of the highlights: New Stratford Middle School We heard over four hours of public, staff, commission, and expert testimony about whether the Board should permit a new driveway onto Old Dominion Drive at the Stratford site. This was an unusual hearing because APS has not yet come with a permit application, but I know from my time on School Board that changes at that late stage can add costs and delays in getting much needed classroom space. There were good arguments both for and … [Read more...]

Why I Support Libby: Former School Board Member Abby Raphael
"It was my honor to serve on the School Board with Libby Garvey, who has worked throughout her career to ensure that at-risk students have the opportunities and resources to succeed in school and in life. During Libby’s 15-years on the School Board, Arlington significantly reduced the achievement gap, increased graduation rates, and our high schools were ranked in the top 1% nationally. Together with the County Board and her School Board colleagues, she focused on renovating schools across the County, and when enrollment was projected to exceed capacity, effectively planned for additions and … [Read more...]
